Fly Away With Me

“Fly Away with Me,” created by Sheradee Hurst Photography and Krissi Farrimond, was recently published by Smitten Magazine. This stylized wedding shoot is an invitation to endless love. The white doves, a central part of this wedding story, symbolize love, devotion, and promise, the promise of never ending love. Doves mate for life which makes their intriguing story of a lifelong bond, unusual in the animal kingdom and relatable to two people in love. The live dove release set the tone for the entire shoot. Every detail and piece of planning centered around this beautiful release.

Waldo’s Pond was the perfect setting for our love story because of a small, tree-lined island so intimate and protected by its surroundings, one needs only to go over the bridge to be in their own little world. The island, called “Waldo’s Landing,” is the perfect spot for a couple exchanging vows just above a whisper and still being heard by their dearest friends.

Organic with a bit of an early 70s vibe shaped the vision of “Fly Away with Me.” The table is set with vintage ceramic doves and Anchor Hocking Fire King plates, made in the early 70s.

Additionally, an empire waisted, flowing gown, a beautifully updated Brigitte Bardot hairstyle and strong eyes for our bride told her story. The Phaedra gown by Claire Pettibone was chosen specifically for the gorgeous, low back, adorned with roses and the empire waist. It features flowing, silk chiffon over floral lace. It is elegant and effortless, a wedding gown possessing striking beauty and comfortable ease. I can’t imagine the bride, on this day, any other way. She feels free and uninhibited, and ready to spend the day nature-gazing and toasting true love. The groom’s style complimented her uninhibited look also. The gown and groom’s attire were provided by JJ Kelly Bridal, where saying yes to the dress means celebrating with a champagne toast in store. Hairstylist, Andrea Lemonds gave Anna a 70s-inspired updo. Freelance and MarloHaus makeup artist, Krystal Engel, completed the look with a soft, natural lip.

We used the perfect 70s-inspired settee from Ruby’s Vintage Rentals and an heirloom antique tea cart borrowed from a friend. The blues and greens in the bridal shoes, the cake and the settee, along with the wooded island, communicate the perfect color palette for organic and vintage 70s.

The beautiful, three-tiered, gold and water color-inspired, hand painted cake was designed and created by Amy Cakes. It features green water color painting, imperfect gold stripes and hand-made sugar flowers. We wanted the cake to represent nature and the water while looking glamorous at the same time.

Freehand calligraphy stationery felt like the organic choice. Christina Ketter, owner of Letter with a K, used stationery-textured paper and hand made the rsvp envelope. The stationery, too, has a very organic feel. The calligraphy of the hand written invitations, rsvp card, menu, and other stationery was inspired by the fly away with me theme as the calligrapher wanted to give it a feeling of floating on air. Christina hand embossed several pieces to add dimension and more texture, and she used a wax seal with a dove insignia as the final touch. Christina also hand painted the beautiful “Fly Away with Me” sign to invite guests to leave the constraints of their every day stress for a few hours, and fly away with the couple to this moment of love.

The gorgeous flowers were intentionally loosely arranged, white and cream and the palest pink to give an organic feel. The various bouquets feature french tulips, peonies, anemones, garden roses and lots of seeded eucalyptus designed and created by Trochta’s Flowers.

We searched the globe for unique jewelry pieces as traditional is not the taste of this bride and groom. On loan from De Bello Designs Jewelry in Northern California, the pieces consist of a one-of-a-kind, handmade copper and round diamond ring, a hammered copper, spiral groom’s ring, copper bezeled and diamond teardrop earrings and a right-hand copper ring set with a 2 ct. natural emerald.

The getaway look was the “Celine” jumpsuit by Halston Heritage, paired with Ted Baker “Annabilla” pointed-toe pumps with a rhinestone brooch accent and a metallic heel. We finished the look with a thick copper cuff with brass detail, set with a step cut, square green tourmaline, handmade by De Bello Designs Jewelry.

We felt it was very important to shoot this wedding on film, rather than digital, to add a crowning touch of 70s reality. So that every aspect drew you back to fly away with this couple.
