Anniversary Shoot

Dressing Jeri and Jeff for their anniversary shoot with Sheradee Hurst Photography was so much fun! Jeri is the perfect shape for fit and flare, and I knew this was the dress when I saw it. She is wearing a gorgeous multi-colored Milly dress with a skinny Reiss belt and black pumps. Jeff is wearing a blue suit and white button-down shirt from his closet and a Brooks Brothers burgundy pocket square highlighting one of the many colors in Jeri’s dress. They both look gorgeous! Look how adorable these two are together. Beautiful photos!

Fly Away With Me

“Fly Away with Me,” created by Sheradee Hurst Photography and Krissi Farrimond, was recently published by Smitten Magazine. This stylized wedding shoot is an invitation to endless love. The white doves, a central part of this wedding story, symbolize love, devotion, and promise, the promise of never ending love. Doves mate for life which makes their intriguing story of a lifelong bond, unusual in the animal kingdom and relatable to two people in love. The live dove release set the tone for the entire shoot. Every detail and piece of planning centered around this beautiful release.

Waldo’s Pond was the perfect setting for our love story because of a small, tree-lined island so intimate and protected by its surroundings, one needs only to go over the bridge to be in their own little world. The island, called “Waldo’s Landing,” is the perfect spot for a couple exchanging vows just above a whisper and still being heard by their dearest friends.

Organic with a bit of an early 70s vibe shaped the vision of “Fly Away with Me.” The table is set with vintage ceramic doves and Anchor Hocking Fire King plates, made in the early 70s.

Additionally, an empire waisted, flowing gown, a beautifully updated Brigitte Bardot hairstyle and strong eyes for our bride told her story. The Phaedra gown by Claire Pettibone was chosen specifically for the gorgeous, low back, adorned with roses and the empire waist. It features flowing, silk chiffon over floral lace. It is elegant and effortless, a wedding gown possessing striking beauty and comfortable ease. I can’t imagine the bride, on this day, any other way. She feels free and uninhibited, and ready to spend the day nature-gazing and toasting true love. The groom’s style complimented her uninhibited look also. The gown and groom’s attire were provided by JJ Kelly Bridal, where saying yes to the dress means celebrating with a champagne toast in store. Hairstylist, Andrea Lemonds gave Anna a 70s-inspired updo. Freelance and MarloHaus makeup artist, Krystal Engel, completed the look with a soft, natural lip.

We used the perfect 70s-inspired settee from Ruby’s Vintage Rentals and an heirloom antique tea cart borrowed from a friend. The blues and greens in the bridal shoes, the cake and the settee, along with the wooded island, communicate the perfect color palette for organic and vintage 70s.

The beautiful, three-tiered, gold and water color-inspired, hand painted cake was designed and created by Amy Cakes. It features green water color painting, imperfect gold stripes and hand-made sugar flowers. We wanted the cake to represent nature and the water while looking glamorous at the same time.

Freehand calligraphy stationery felt like the organic choice. Christina Ketter, owner of Letter with a K, used stationery-textured paper and hand made the rsvp envelope. The stationery, too, has a very organic feel. The calligraphy of the hand written invitations, rsvp card, menu, and other stationery was inspired by the fly away with me theme as the calligrapher wanted to give it a feeling of floating on air. Christina hand embossed several pieces to add dimension and more texture, and she used a wax seal with a dove insignia as the final touch. Christina also hand painted the beautiful “Fly Away with Me” sign to invite guests to leave the constraints of their every day stress for a few hours, and fly away with the couple to this moment of love.

The gorgeous flowers were intentionally loosely arranged, white and cream and the palest pink to give an organic feel. The various bouquets feature french tulips, peonies, anemones, garden roses and lots of seeded eucalyptus designed and created by Trochta’s Flowers.

We searched the globe for unique jewelry pieces as traditional is not the taste of this bride and groom. On loan from De Bello Designs Jewelry in Northern California, the pieces consist of a one-of-a-kind, handmade copper and round diamond ring, a hammered copper, spiral groom’s ring, copper bezeled and diamond teardrop earrings and a right-hand copper ring set with a 2 ct. natural emerald.

The getaway look was the “Celine” jumpsuit by Halston Heritage, paired with Ted Baker “Annabilla” pointed-toe pumps with a rhinestone brooch accent and a metallic heel. We finished the look with a thick copper cuff with brass detail, set with a step cut, square green tourmaline, handmade by De Bello Designs Jewelry.

We felt it was very important to shoot this wedding on film, rather than digital, to add a crowning touch of 70s reality. So that every aspect drew you back to fly away with this couple.

Wear White in the Winter

After labor day, you put your white skinnies and dresses away, right? No, that rule is long gone! Don’t be afraid to pull them out in the winter. It’s a great way to brighten up your wardrobe with pieces you already own. Here are a few ways to pull your look together:

Pair your skinnies with a turtle neck, over-sized cardigan and black moto booties.

Screen Shot 2015-01-22 at 11.48.49 AM

Geometric Pattern Cardigan,, $63; UNIQLO turtle neck t-shirt,, $10; J Brand mid-rise skinny jeans,, $267; STEVEN by Steve Madden Early Moto Booties,, $89.

Throw a grey (or any color really) over your white skinnies and add over-the-knee boots. This is a great deal ($99) on this Brooks Brothers cashmere sweater, and it’s a great closet staple! A good tip for wearing white denim in the winter is to wear at least an above the ankle boot with them, especially if there is any moisture on the ground, so that sloshing doesn’t ruin your pants.

Screen Shot 2015-01-22 at 10.46.33 AM

Brooks Brothers Cashmere Sweater, brooks, $99 (sale); J Brand Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans, $267; Michael Kors Regina Over-the-Knee Boot,, $275, Proenza Schouler Sunglasses,, $125; Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC cross body,, $175 (sale).

And finally, pull out your cute black and white striped sleeveless dress, throw a turtle neck and tights underneath, and make your way to the office or brunch or happy hour. It’s an adorable way to wear something fresh.

Camilla and Marc Zealot Striped Sleeveless Dress,, $334 (sale); UNIQLO Black Turtle Neck T-shirt,, $10; Black Tights,, $10; Barneys New York Lace Up Platform Ankle Bootie,, $199 (sale – hurry!)

Holiday Party Looks

The holiday season is here, and social calendars are in full swing! It’s so much fun to get dressed up for a night out, and finding the perfect look is key to perfecting my joy.

Black-tie optional means a cocktail dress is perfectly appropriate and the same goes for a long gown, which makes the possibilities endless and the decision even harder. I really wanted to keep my entire look under $300 so I’m planning to wear jewelry I already own and hopefully shoes too. Many of the shoes below are just eye candy, as most people own go-to metallic or black pumps for special occasions such as these. And great news, dresses are on sale!

This is the cutest Ted Baker Snake Embossed Neoprene dress, perfect for a cocktail party or black-tie optional (or black-tie, according to some). You can find this dress at Harrods. The current price is $258 USD. Obviously, these Christian Louboutin Mea Culpa Flared Suede Pumps are HOT! If you can do it at $895 per pair, then do it! Husband or Santa, if you’re reading this, I wear a size 38. And my go-to, fancy-wear Stella Casablanca earrings to finish the look.

Screen Shot 2014-12-06 at 2.54.02 PM

Halston Heritage Plunging Gathered-Waist Jersey Gown. This dress didn’t drape right on me, and made me feel hippy. It’s a gorgeous choice for someone though, and it’s now on sale at Neiman Marcus for $237! I went with vintage-looking Naomi cluster earrings and Zora crystal necklace up top and Kristin Cavallari Copertina Lt Gold Glitter Pumps down low.

A Diane von Furstenberg Draped Satin Jersey Gown. Is there a theme here? Yes, I’m obsessed with a beautiful, plunging neckline, long-sleeved dress. And I’ll admit, my closet is pretty dark in general, with navy and black being my favorite colors to wear. This was a contender for me, even though it’s completely see-thru (this is what slips are for, right?). It draped perfectly and would have been stunning with this Stella & Dot Casablanca necklace and Vintage Crystal Studs I already own. The DVF gown is on sale at Saks Fifth Avenue for $317.

Screen Shot 2014-12-06 at 2.34.38 PM

This Piperlime Collection Embellished Dress is great for showing off your legs! It was a little too stiff for me and not my favorite silhouette to wear, but I tried! You can find it at Piperlime for $109.

Screen Shot 2014-12-06 at 2.39.39 PM

This Black Halo gown is the first dress I tried on. Not only was it over budget, but it looked terrible on me! Too bad, right? Because it’s so pretty.

Screen Shot 2014-12-06 at 5.44.12 PM

If the sky was the limit, I would be wearing this look. This Kenzo Twill Mountain Dress is to-die for! But at $965, it didn’t meet my budget for this event. I added a REISS belt to it because fit and flare is better for me when the waist is belted, just a personal preference. And look at those shoes! Love, love, love these Consuelo Calfhair Ankle Wrap Pumps by Ivy Kirzhner, currently on sale for $258 at! Hurry. And Kate Spade stud earrings and a couple of bangles too finish the look.

Screen Shot 2014-12-06 at 2.18.27 PM

This is the Bloomingdales Boutique Gown (now on sale for $223) I chose. Really, from the beginning, I wanted to wear a long gown with long sleeves. I love the beading detail around the neckline and keyhole, and it fit perfectly (aside from drastic hemming). I also had the little train removed because I think it made it a little too formal and there is nothing more annoying than people stepping on your dress all night. The beading shows up a little silver and gold in this photo, but it’s actually all silver & platinum looking. I finished the look with jewelry I already own (whoop!) from Stella & Dot, Casablanca earrings with the bottom piece removed, the Casablanca bracelet and the Deco Cocktail Ring. I’m thinking of doing a faux bob for the occasion and polishing the look with bright red lips and nails. I know I’m wearing a 4-inch heel, but shoes are still TBD, although these Caparros peep-toe heels would be a great choice, and are on sale at Lord & Taylor for $60.
